The REAL Reason for Bad Posture

Bad posture has been viewed as either a muscle problem or something you can’t improve.

I’ll show you some studies that prove you CAN improve your posture a little later. But first, let's take a look at why your muscles are NOT the main problem.

Everyone, including myself, has always believed that bad posture is a result of some muscles being weak and others being tight.

But what if I told you it's not just the muscles that are tight or stretched out, it's the fascia system around them?

Your Posture System


Your posture is a full-body problem, and when one joint becomes compromised, the rest of the body will begin to follow.

For example: when your feet point out, either walking or standing, your knees will begin to compensate by rotating inwards. This rotation in the knee then affects the hips, then the lower back, and more, all the way up the kinetic chain.

And the fascia system is the only system that not only covers the entire body but can also create these kinds of compromised joints through constant tension.

And since your posture is a full-body problem, we should be looking at the fascia system because it’s the ONLY tissue that can create tension throughout the entire body.

Fascia and Posture

Remember how I said you CAN improve your posture?

Well, if you take a look at some of the studies below, you will see that you can improve your posture in record time by working on the fascia system.

Study 1 - Fascial Manipulation® method applied to pubescent postural hyperkyphosis: A pilot study

17 kids was shown to have hypokyphosis by testing to see how far their head, shoulders, and pelvis was from the midline of their body.

And after an average of only 3 sessions, not only did all the kids see a huge improvement; But even after a 7 month follow up and no additional treatments, most of the kids had the same positive results. Some of them still even showed more progress.

Study 2 - Postural improvement using core integration to lengthen myofascia

12/14 of the individuals who went through the myofascial release saw a huge difference in their posture within 2 months of receiving myofascial release on the stomach, psoas, and more.

Study 3 - The effects of manual treatment on rounded-shoulder posture, and associated muscle strength

This is a study that shows working on the pec minor and adding some stretching helped improve rounded shoulders for 2 weeks after a single, 6 minute session. 

It was 3 minutes of manual treatment and 3 minutes of stretching on the chest.

Study 4 - Myofascial Release of the Pectoral Fascia: Relationship Between Forward Shoulder Posture Severity and Magnitude of Change in Posture, Pectoral Length, and Muscle Excitation

What this study showed was individuals who had the greatest Forward Shoulder Posture (FSP) saw the biggest changes in their rounded shoulders after a 4 minute session of myofascial release to the chest.

Study 5 - Structural Integration Effects on Postural Alignment of Young Recreational Athletes: A Pilot Study

This study showed a change in the spinal posture in a young athlete after only 10 treatments of myofascial release.

The Biggest Problem Here

Now let me address the biggest problem with these studies.

There are not enough of them!

And that’s because fascia is JUST starting to be taken seriously. Fascia used to get cut from the body, as if it was the same as fat tissue.

But now fascia is being called “An Organ On Its Own” because of the mechanical, neurological, and chemical markings being found in your fascia system.
